TOM Powell is no stranger to sending good batsmen back to the pavilion.
The Dennington all-rounder has impressed at Warrnambool and District Cricket Association division one level in recent weeks, claiming six wickets from two outings. One of those scalps? His under 17 country week mentor Jake Hetherington.

But it's not just with the ball Powell is most focused on making an impact for Warrnambool Blue. The former Brierly-Christ Church junior wants to add more runs to his repertoire in his maiden outing in the colts grade.
"I'd love a few more runs," he told The Standard.
"If I can just sort of hang around, that'll be good. I'm not much of a dominator but if I can hang around a bit I can go all right.

"Just to accumulate and hang around."
Powell, who has attended several under 15 carnivals in Horsham, was relishing the chance to play on home decks.
"It should be good. It'll be a bit different to other ones because we're at home," he said.
"You sort of just have to play each ball as it comes at country week.
"You've just got to play to your strengths and you should be all right."

He said opportunities at Dennington had improved his game and felt it would be an advantage heading into country week.
"It's obviously a lot harder at that level," Powell said.
"I feel like it's improved me when I come to country week and in juniors."
Warrnambool Blue will play South West at Camperdown's Lakes Reserve on Monday.
Warrnambool Gold, meanwhile, will face off against Portland at Jones Oval.
