Warrnambool residents are expected to be the envy of people all over the state in the coming days.
Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Christopher Arvier said Warnambool and Portland were expected to have milder conditions than most parts of the state on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
"We're expecting severe heat wave conditions across the state for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day but the temperature in Warrnambool is expected to be moderated by afternoon sea breezes," Mr Arvier said.
"The south west coast is looking like one of the places to be."
He said temperatures in the high 30s and early 40s were predicted for most parts of the state, including Casterton and Mortlake.
"You don't have to go too far inland for it to warm up," Mr Arvier said.
However, a top of 25 is predicted for Warrnambool.
Mr Arvier said the temperature could rise to the low 30s in the city if the sea breeze arrived later than expected.
"However, at this stage we think it will be early enough for the temperature to stay at 25 or 26 degrees."
