Freddie opted against using the club from his kitbag when tackling the Rotary of East Warrnambool hole-in-one competition on Tuesday.
The Melbourne-based student, 9, used one of the clubs available at the Lake Pertobe-based set-up to score an ace in the junior competition.
His 50-metre shot fell into the hole, causing celebrations.
"I haven't used the driver yet - I would have hit it too far (in the hole-in-one competition)," Freddie told The Standard.
"I can't believe I got it in. It surprised me. I celebrated.
"I said (to organisers) it was a pink ball and then they pulled it out of the hole and I just knew it was a hole-in-one."
Freddie, who was visiting family in Warrnambool over Christmas, followed father Damon into the sport, often joining him on the driving range.
But he's now eclipsed his dad in one area.
"My dad hasn't got one yet," Freddie said of the rare feat.
They often play together which is something he enjoys.
"Down at my grandparents' house (near Barwon Heads) they have a golf course and there's one that's nine holes and I play it sometimes," Freddie said.
"I just kept doing it and getting better and I heard there was a hole-in-one at Warrnambool and I wanted to do it."
Freddie is based in Elwood but has family ties to Warrnambool.
"I do enjoy getting down here. We have little cousins who are about two, four and eight and I love going down to the beach and playing," he said.
The rotary club fundraiser will run until January 26.
