South-west residents heading away for a break have been urged to let police know.
Warrnambool's acting superintendent Paul Bertoncello urged people to visit the Victoria Police website to register an absence.

"That information comes through to the local police station and then we have a knowledge of how many people are away from certain areas and we can direct patrols there," Acting Superintendent Bertoncello said.
He also urged people to talk to neighbours if they plan to be away.
"There's a number of things people can do like talking to neighbours about putting bins out and bringing them back in," Acting Superintendent Bertoncello said.
Asking a neighbour to occasionally park a car in the drive way and turning down a landline phone are other preventative measures.
