It's been a busy week on the roads for Koroit police who have nabbed 22 speeding drivers in just one week.

Koroit police sergeant Pat Day said those intercepted were a mix of people including both residents and out-of-towners.

"We've seen a massive spike in the last week of people speeding on the backroads in and around Koroit," he said.

"It's a real mix of people on holiday and local people just not abiding by changes in the speed zones, particularly in Southern Cross, near the airport, Mailors Flat and Winslow.

"They're just not slowing down for the 80 zones and wanting to do 100. Everybody seems to be in a hurry to go somewhere.

"Slow down and get there in one piece."

Nearly all those intercepted were fined $363 and three demerit points.

One exception was a man from Collingwood found travelling at 141km/h on the Heywood Woolsthorpe Road.

"When he was stopped, he gave his reason as wanting to see what his car could do on the open road," sergeant Day said.

That man also had his licence suspended for six months.
