Police say the discovery of a man's body at Port Fairy on Christmas Day is a tragedy but his death is not being treated as suspicious.
A groundskeeper found the body of a 70-year-old Warrnambool man at the third tee at the Port Fairy Golf Course on Saturday at 7.45am, a Warrnambool police spokesman said.
He said the man was located with fishing gear.
"It is not yet known if the man was going fishing or had already been," the spokesman said.
"The death is not being treated as suspicious."
The spokesman said the man had no medical history and that police would prepare a report for the coroner.
He said next of kin had been notified.
"Police are thinking of his family and friends at this time of year," he said.
"It is tragic."
