A draft proposal to reintroduce dingoes to the Grampians for culturally significant reasons has been rejected due to 'significant community concern'.
The plan to bring back the top order predators was part of Park Victoria's Greater Gariwerd Draft Landscape Management Plan.

But concerns from the farming sector trumped the proposal, with Parks Victoria opting instead to work "in collaboration with traditional owners, neighbours and the community (and) support ongoing community discussions to build understanding of the cultural significance and ecological role of Wilkurr (Dingo)."

Southern Grampians Shire mayor Bruach Colliton had previously written to the Minister for Agriculture after the council passed a motion opposing the plan.
"Whilst sensitive and supportive of recognising Indigenous history and culture, Southern Grampians Shire Council is concerned that a proposed release of current dingo species into a vast landscape in the heart of livestock farming will become a major animal welfare issue which will affect our livestock," he said.
