After missing 2020 due to COVID, a performance of Handel's Messiah will return.

This will be the 39th time this classic has been performed in Port Fairy, with the show to take place on Tuesday December 28.

As is tradition, the venue for the performance will be St John's Anglican Church.

The event is staged by the church and is curated by local musicians, with Philip Shaw leading the coordination this year.

Mr Shaw said it was exciting to have the event back.

He said with COVID still in the community, performer and audience safety was a focus.

"All attendees will wear face masks, we want to keep people as safe as we can," Mr Shaw said.

"We normally get 150 to 200 people attend and we expect that type of number again.

"Performance wise, we usually allow people to walk-up and join the choir but this year due to COVID we have capped that at 45.

"As well as the choir, we will have the orchestra and four soloists.

"The soloists are four young professionals from Melbourne."

The show will begin at 7.30pm with tickets available through Trybooking or at the door on the night.
