The Portland woman, 54, was intercepted by police just before 9pm at Tyrendarra East.
She was taken to the Port Fairy police station where she blew 0.142 on a breath test, almost three times the legal limit.
Station Commander Sergeant David Walkley said it was lucky no-one was injured or killed.
"I am astounded that she had driven from Melbourne and not already been involved in a collision," he said.
"I cannot describe her manner of driving as anything other than downright stupid and dangerous."
Her licence was immediately suspended and 1999 Toyota Corolla sedan impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1325.
She was be summonsed to court on speeding and drink driving charges.
