Bids for a three bedroom, two bathroom house at 89 Kelp Street opened at $600,000, well-above the reserve price of $580,000.

Strong bidding early on between two locals saw the price quickly reach $700,000, eventually holding at $710,000 before an interstate buyer emerged with an offer of $715,000 after second call.

"It was a very exciting auction," Ray White's Fergus Torpy said.

"There was a good strong opening bid and it went up by two and one thousand all the way to 710 and the last person came in at the end.

"An interstate buyer got it, the other two bidders were local. The expectation was anywhere from $580,000 -$635,000.

"It's a credit to the type of property it is. It's very hard to find flat three bedroom houses in town let alone maintenance."

About 60 people had attended the auction.

A second three-bedroom property at 26 Clifton Street attracted a similar-sized crowd.

Bids opened at $450,000, with the price teetering on $550,000 before a couple perched on a mailbox on the opposite side of the street swooped in to secure the property with a bid of $556,000.

"It was another really good result," Mr Torpy said.

"We had three bidders - very similar to the last one where we had another bidder right at the end. We also had a really strong opening bid and it was a local lady buying it which was great - she's going to move into it.

"It's a very strong result for a three bedroom house in the area."
