Dennington's Resting Waters' pet cremation uses one of just four state-of-the-art flameless machines in Australia capable of servicing animals from as small as a goldfish to miniature ponies.

Animal lovers LeAnn and Warren Martin -who own three cats, a rabbit, a horse and a puppy- said they opened the business knowing many residents were having to travel as far as Geelong or Bacchus Marsh to have their pets cremated.

"We've had really positive feedback from our customers so far," Ms Martin said.

"We had people calling us before we were ready to operate saying they'd heard about us and things like that.

"The comments we have had back indicated people were attracted to our service because it meant they didn't have to send their pet out of town and so it would be quicker.

"The process is also very gentle as opposed to a fire cremation and people like the environmentally-friendly aspect of it as well."

After a 20-hour emissions-free cycle (Alkaline Hydrolysis) consisting of 95 per cent warm water and 5 per cent alkaline, bones are then cremulated and placed in a variety of environmentally-friendly scatter urns, keepsakes or memorial products the owner can choose from.

Ms Martin said the new business would service the entire south-west region and collection could occur at any vet centre, home or location of choice.

"We've kept in mind the fact Warrnambool would not be enough of a catchment area by itself," Ms Martin said.

"So we've visited the vets from Portland through to Camperdown and up to Hamilton to introduce ourselves and to say we're here to service their customers if they need us."

While all services are completed within seven days, a 24-hour service is also available on request.

Forecasting high demand, Ms Martin said water cremation was also a great option for those in the region renting and who could not bury their beloved animals.
