A vehicle believed to be involved in a terrifying home invasion at Hamilton on Tuesday has been found dumped nearly 80 kilometres from the scene of the crime.
Detective Senior Constable Chris Asenjo said the grey 1995 Toyota HiLux utility was found dumped and hidden behind bushes at Portland's Francis Street at 8.20am Thursday.

The vehicle was observed fleeing a property in Hamilton's Kenna Street on Tuesday after a single female occupant of the address was confronted by an unknown man with a knife at 1.10pm
Police say the woman was threatened and assaulted by a male offender, who remains outstanding.
Images and footage of the HiLux were released by detectives on Wednesday in the hope of finding the vehicle.
"Occupants of the vehicle are still outstanding and unknown," Detective Senior Constable Asenjo said.
"But we have located the vehicle and it will be towed to a secure location for forensic testing."

Detective Senior Constable Asenjo said police believed the vehicle sustained a smash to the front windscreen as it left the Hamilton property making it very distinctive.
On Thursday it appeared the windscreen had been removed.
Detective Senior Constable Asenjo said a resource-intensive investigation was still ongoing.
"The matter is still being fully investigated and we're urging anyone with information about that vehicle, or the occupants of the vehicle, over the last 48 hours to please make a report."
Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
On Wednesday, Detective Senior Constable Asenjo said the victim had no physical injuries but was left "absolutely traumatised".
"This was a brazen incident where a woman was home alone," he said.
"It is an appalling crime given the fact that a woman or any person should feel safest in their own home."
