Boyd, who plays for Allansford-Panmure's division one side in the Warrnambool and District Cricket Association, is mixing footy training with cricket.
"I like to keep all pathways open with cricket and footy so it will be really good to see how far I can go," he said.
Boyd got stuck into another Greater Western Victoria Rebels pre-season this week in pursuit of making the under 19 NAB League team in 2022.
The under 19 and under 16 Warrnambool groups trained together at Emmanuel College on Monday and Wednesday night.

Boyd made the Rebels' under 16 and under 17 sides.
He enjoyed having Koroit export and Port Adelaide player Willem Drew as a special guest at training on Monday.
"It was really good he showed us some great skills to take into our individual football careers," Boyd said.
"Just having his experience and how he has worked to cement his spot (in Port Adelaide's side) over the past year has been really good."
The Warrnambool squad is also looking forward to having some of the south-west's best coaches lead training including Kolora-Noorat premiership-winning mentor Ben Walsh and Koroit's Chris McLaren who has coached numerous flags.
Old Collegians coach Ben van de Camp is head coach of the Warrnambool-based program.
Boyd is looking forward to picking their brains as well in an endeavour to improve his own game.
The 17-year-old, who plays for Warrnambool Blues, finished third in the Hampden under 18 league best and fairest this year.
The tall youngster played wing, ruck as well as in the forward line.
He played in the backline when he got his chance in Rebels matches.
