LONG-SERVING Purnim Recreation Reserve secretary Peter McDonald says his volunteer of the year recognition is a reflection of the committee's work in building the venue to a high standard.
McDonald, who has been in the role for more than 30 years, received the honour at the South West Sports Star Awards on Friday night.

The recreation reserve has only had two presidents in its history. The first was Rodger Henderson and the second is incumbent Mick McKinnon.
"It's not about one person as we have a dedicated group of committee of management members - we're all community volunteers," McDonald said.
"Since last cricket season the playground fence has been upgraded and a new number two oval fence will be finalised this week.
"But the big item is replacing the Rodger Henderson Oval hard wicket with turf facilities. It's been a long-term project in planning, we've still got a couple of boxes to tick off but on track with our plan to have the turf wicket ready for the 2022-23 season. "There's a great vibe around the Northern Raiders and the anticipation of having dual-wicket facilities - both turf and hard wickets side by side - at the complex."
Player gets warning
WESLEY-Yambuk batsman Zavier Mungean has received an official warning from the Warrnambool and District Cricket Association's match committee for dissent. WDCA chairman Gordon McLeod said Mungean, a talented batsman who is averaging 32.7 runs this season, was warned for disagreeing with umpire Ashley Jennings' decision to give him out caught behind in this past Saturday's match against Nestles.
Under WDCA rules, there are two options for reporting unsatisfactory behaviour.

Serious breaches which are deemed level one will mean umpires speak to a player regarding their behaviour but do not believe a report is necessary. The incident will be noted on the umpires' match report and the player will receive a warning. If a player receives three such warnings in a season, they will be reported by the WDCA match committee chairperson.
Serious breaches of misbehaviour, which are deemed levels two, three and four will see the player immediately reported by the umpires. McLeod reminded players dissent was unacceptable.
