Detective Senior Constable Wayne Ryan, of the Warrnambool police crime investigation unit, said 30 head of pure Friesian heifers were stolen between November 1 and 24.

He said the cattle was worth in excess of $60,000.

"Investigators are hoping that someone in the Ellerslie area during that time has observed a truck unknown to them in the area as we believe a truck was absolutely essential in terms of moving the cattle," Detective Senior Constable Ryan said.

"We remind rural communities to keep an eye out and if they believe something is odd or raises suspicion, it's certainly no inconvenience to police if they ring in relation to registration details and types and makes of vehicles they believe might be suspicious," the detective said.
