REIGNING Jericho Cup-winning trainer Symon Wilde is hoping for a top four finish from his two runners in this years version of the $300,000 race at Warrnambool on Sunday.
Wilde, who won the 4600-metre flat race with Count Zero in 2020, saddles up American In Paris and Beachgoer in Sunday's event which is run through the Brierly paddocks.
"I can't split my two runners they are both genuine stayers," Wilde told The Standard.
"I'm hoping for a top four finish for my two runners anything above that would be a great result. American In Paris and Beachgoer have had different preparations to get them into the field.

"I would say the one common thing is they both do a lot of work down at Warrnambool's Lady Bay beach apart from that they have had different paths.
"American In Paris has had a light campaign. It was designed to keep him fresh for the Jericho. He's only had the two runs in from a break and I've been happy with both runs.
"He finished his last start at Donald off very strongly at the end of 2000 metres while Beachgoer has the miles in his legs. Beachgoer's form has been good.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"I think he's crying out for the 4600 metres of the Jericho Cup. He's at his peak fitness. Beachgoer takes a bit of time to wind up but he should be finished the race off strongly."
Wilde has booked stable jockey Ronan Short to ride American In Paris while last years Jericho Cup-winning jockey Luke Williams will be aboard Beachgoer.
The powerful Ciaron Maher and David Eustace training combination accepted with Wil John and Heberite in the feature race on the nine race program.
Maher and Eustace trained Ablaze to win the staying test in 2019. The Jericho Cup is race eight on the card and is scheduled to begin at 4.55pm.
Warrnambool Racing Club racecourse manager Daniel Lumsden said the running rail will be in the true position for the meeting.
