Bidders braved blustery late spring weather to compete for the recently renovated house in Saltau Street, set on a 687 square metre block with a double garage, back porch and large back yard.
The property was expected to fetch between $500,000-$550,000.
Bidding opened at $480,000, with four bidders - two of them bidding over the phone - raising the sale price over $550,000. But a fifth party swooped in at the last minute to steal the show.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The winning bidders were moving from Geelong with their two children, chasing the easy pace of life in Warrnambool. They said the location of the property suited them. "We were trying to get in the right zone for the kids and school," they said.
Ray White agent Lachie Kelly said the auction was being held on a Friday because their Saturday slots were full with five auctions scheduled.
