A 36-year-old man has been arrested and remanded in custody after a brawl, which left him and and two others needing hospital treatment early Saturday morning.
A Portland police spokesman said the brawl occurred in Bentinck Street and police members witnessed it while working in nearby Glenelg Street, a couple of hundred metres from the Portland police station.

A man received serious facial injuries in the altercation and another man and a woman were also taken to hospital, police said.
The spokesman said a Portland man, 36, was remanded to appear in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Monday morning and the brawl did not occur upon leaving licensed premises.
"Just after 2am Saturday in Portland, police witnessed a brawl erupt and as a result three people were treated at hospital," the spokesman said.
"There were more people involved but it resulted in three people being treated at the hospital, one of which was the suspect.
Meanwhile, Portland police were called to reports of a suspected drug overdose in the town's main street on Friday about 5pm, where a man and a woman were both laying unresponsive on the footpath.
Portland police Sergeant Ash Rawlings said upon police arrival the man was placed into the recovery position.
"Unfortunately the female came to and decided to attack police, so we had members trying to assist the male with lifesaving first aid only to have the female cause issues and have to be restrained," Sergeant Ash Rawlings said.
He said the man was taken to hospital by ambulance and treated for a drug overdose.

He said the woman was removed from the scene and taken to the Portland police station where officers located two bottles of alcohol in her possession, which had been stolen from a Portland supermarket.
"Being 5pm Friday night, Percy Street was full," Sergeant Rawlings said. "We had numerous calls to Triple 0 from concerned citizens. The majority were scared to approach and were calling for help," he said.
Both people were from Portland and aged 37.
"She was currently on bail and was remanded into custody to face the Warrnambool Magistrates Court tomorrow," Sergeant Rawlings said.
In a separate incident, Portland police were called to a disturbance in south Portland on Saturday about 4pm where they searched a 40-year-old man.
Sergeant Ash Rawlings said upon arrival, the man was taken into custody in relation to drug and weapon possession charges.
"That male has five counts of bail and had previous matters before the courts so we've remanded him to face the Warrnambool courts on Monday."
