PEOPLE in regional Victoria have been warned to expect to see more COVID-19 cases closer to home with the easing of restrictions.
Victoria's COVID-19 response commander Jeroen Weimar said there had been an upswing of new cases in regional Victoria with 218 of the 1355 new cases in regional areas.
"Over 20 per cent now of those reported are now in regional Victoria," he said.
"A week ago that was about 14 per cent.
"We are seeing this predicted increase of cases in regional Victoria.
"Now with the opening up and easing of restrictions... this is a time when we will expect to see ongoing spread and movement across our community."
Mr Weimar said getting tested and staying aware of symptoms would continue to be very important.
He said there were now more than 21,000 active cases in the state with two thirds of those cases aged under 40 and one third aged under 20.
He said 18 per cent of the cases reported today were under the age of 10.
"This continues to be cases predominantly in our unvaccinated communities and predominantly affecting younger Victorians," he said.
Speaking at the last of the daily COVID press conferences, Mr Weimar said daily updates would continue to to be provided.
According to the Department of Health there were 22,455 COVID vaccines delivered on Friday at state run clinics and 79.1 per cent of Victorians 16 and over were fully vaccinated.
There are 747 people in hospital with COVID and 135 of those people were in ICU and 83 people were on a ventilator.
Sadly 11 people died with COVID overnight and Mr Weimar sent his condolences to their loved ones.
