His wattleseed dish may have seen him eliminated from the MasterChef kitchen last Sunday, but New Zealand born Archie Thompson knows his apples from his oranges when it comes to football.
Former Socceroo and Melbourne Victory legend Thompson will be back on our TV screens from November 19, providing expert commentary and analysis on Network 10's coverage of the Isuzu UTE A-League, hosted by sports presenter and journalist Tara Rushton, sports broadcaster Niav Owens, 10 Sport presenter Scott Mackinnon and callers Simon Hill and Andy Harper.
Thompson is among a panel of experts including Socceroo Mark Milligan; former Matildas defender Georgia Yeoman-Dale; ex-Socceroo Bruce Djite; three-time Sydney FC Championship winning forward Alex Brosque; former Matildas midfielder and Brisbane Roar W-League Championship winner Amy Chapman and former Socceroo and Sydney FC defender Luke Wilkshire.
"I think they only signed me up so I can cook in the Green Room," Thompson quips.
"I'm part of an exciting team. I got a taste of it (pardon the pun) with MasterChef, and now it's spread over to the football.
"MasterChef gives you a different appreciation of food. When you listen to the judges and how much they know about the science of it all it's amazing.
"And it's the same with the [commentary] team Network 10 has put together. You are going to get so much more insight [into games]. It's a real bonus," he says.
"It's great now a massive company [Isuzu] is going to ignite people to watch football again. This is a whole new era, with new branding, new sponsorship, the players are excited, the clubs are excited and I am excited."
