Vicki Burns has started an online petition on change.org calling for the speed limit on Carrolls Road to be reduced from 80km/h to 60km/h.

"I run in Allansford and there are a lot of other people who walk and run," Ms Burns said.

"The roads are getting really busy and Carrolls Road is a narrow road - with room for only one car.

"Many people - runners, walkers, kids on bikes and dogs use this road for fitness and enjoyment any time of day.

"School buses are on this road daily with numerous children getting on and off.

"There are many trucks that use this road as well."

Ms Burns said more than 200 people had signed the petition.

She is hoping to secure at least 500 signatures.

Ms Burns said the community had been rocked by the death of a 62-year-old cyclist on Tooram Road last month.

"I fear this may happen again as there is no safe walking trail around Allansford," she said.

Ms Burns, who has lived in Allansford for 19 years, said this was something the town needed - in addition to the reduced speed limit.

"I've spoken to a number of residents and the consensus is 'we don't have anything in Allansford. A lot of small towns have walking trails, why can't Allansford?'"

Ms Burns said Allansford was a thriving community, with more people and a growing number of families deciding to call the town home.

"It's becoming a popular area and the traffic is increasing," she said.
