Southfield defeated Hippie Hollow and Young Lucas to win the $35,000 race.

Barry told The Standard his wife Lisa was celebrating her 31st birthday and many of the owners in Southfield were newcomers to his stable.

"It's a great result to get a win with Southfield," he said. "Lisa is the backbone of the stable.

"She does all the accounts and feeds up the horses when I'm not around plus she looks after our three daughters.

"Lisa and our stable foreman Pat Reid do amazing jobs. We'll have to find time to celebrate the win. I've got to give a mention to Southfield's owners.

"A lot of them are Terang people and they are first time owners with our stable."

Barry said Southfield will be set for distance flat races in the future.

"I think she's going to be better over more ground," he said. "She's stoutly bred on her mother's side."

Five of the eight races were won by Warrnambool-trained horses. Maddie Raymond won a maiden with Night Eclipse, Symon Wilde was successful with Duchess Of Dorset in a benchmark 64.

Let's Atom won for Shayne Fisher. Wanalirri took out a benchmark 64 for Patrick Ryan and Lunatic Freeze was successful for Tom Dabernig.

Let's Atom dealt punters a savage blow winning the second leg of the quadrella for Fisher at odds of $41.

The eight-year-old has won two of his 39 starts. The quaddie paid just over $7000.

Top jockey Dean Yendall took out the riding honours with a double. Yendall was successful on Night Eclipse and Heberite.
