Plans to enhance the public space at Railway Place will be underway on October 11 including the installation of new play elements, accessible paths, seating, a bike repair station and a free Wi-Fi zone.
Moyne Shire mayor Daniel Meade said the plans were developed with the aim of creating vibrant, connected communities.
"The Railway Place precinct project will not only enhance the visual appeal of the space, but will also create a sense of connection for visitors and the community to come together, sit down and relax, enjoy a coffee while the kids play, or grab a bike and link up with the Rail Trail," he said.
"With the precinct already used by the community and farmer's markets, it was important that the new plans support these events and nearby businesses, while also providing an inclusive and dynamic space for people to visit and enjoy.
"Key features of the project include accessible paths, free Wi-Fi, all-abilities play elements including a tipi carousel, bicycle-themed art installations and a bike repair station including stands, pump and tools to support users of the rail trail and the Vic's bike hire service."
Conservation works on the exterior of the heritage Railway goods shed will get underway following a permit approval from Heritage Victoria and completion of a public tender process for suitably qualified contractors.
Planned works include repairs to the timber platform and doors, weather proofing and electrical services to meet fire regulations and replacement of cladding.
Cr Meade said the planned upgrades were exciting.
"Council is really excited to get the ball rolling on maintenance and conservation works at the historic goods shed site in Port Fairy," Cr Meade said.
"The goods shed is a beloved asset to the community and council is pleased to prioritise funding for these works through its annual budget and an allocation from the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program."
