Hecho en Mexico business development manager Jimena Muoz said the team was very excited to be opening a restaurant in the former Figsellers Cafe premises in Liebig Street.
She said Hecho en Mexico had seven restaurants across Melbourne at locations including Brighton, South Yarra, Yarraville and Moonee Ponds. Warrnambool will be its first regional venue and will employ 20 people.
It is expected to be open by Christmas and will offer dine-in, takeaway and home delivery.
She said Hecho en Mexico first opened its doors in November 2013 in the iconic suburb of Fitzroy. "The whole concept was created by two young guys full of ideas and a great passion for Mexican food," Ms Muoz said. "They have managed to grow the business with patience and hard work, going from one to eight venues now."
She said the building would be renovated to give it a "fresh, happy and vibrant atmosphere with an authentic Mexican touch".
The family-friendly restaurant sells tacos, burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas and a big selection of tequilas, Mexican beers and margaritas, catering for vegetarians, vegans and coeliacs.
Ray White Warrnambool business development manager Hayley Shannon leased the 350 square metre property, across two shopfronts.
She said the long-term lease terms meant Hecho En Mexico would feature in the iconic Liebig Street location well into the future.
"Both the property owner and Hecho en Mexico are invested in the greater good of the community and seeing the space utilised for something beneficial," she said.
"Seeing the shopfronts in our CBD fill with new and exciting ventures is something our team is passionate about.
"The fresh, vibrant, ambient themes of Hecho En Mexico's restaurants is not only sure to brighten up the restaurant end of Liebig Street, but also lead to job openings within the town," she said.
Ms Shannon said the number of commercial enquiries had increased substantially during the past six to nine months and said lots of individuals and businesses were waiting for the perfect property for their ventures to become available.
