Piper Stephens and Elsie Sinnott, two Magpies plying their trade in the Hampden league's 13 and under division for Camperdown, defied expectations.
The duo was neck and neck until Stephens, the daughter of 200-gamer Emily, edged in front and won by just one vote.
Stephens, speaking from a holiday in Lakes Entrance, said she was delighted with the result but would've been happy to see Sinnott pip her at the post.
"I would've been happy either way, if she won it or I won it. I'm happy she came in runner-up," Stephens said.
The Camperdown youngster said her side was able to dramatically improve its teamwork and cohesion throughout the season.
