"With the Vic government, we can't get any clarification about returning to play and the competition," she said.
"They have indicated it's not until the end of September.
"Board members spoke tonight and felt it was the right decision that we cancel the season.
"So we have notified all club presidents tonight that the season will be cancelled and the top sides will be awarded minor premiership flags."
Murphy said it was disappointing the season had come to an end.
"It's sad, I think clubs and players should start looking toward the 2022 season. Hopefully by then all Victoria will be fully vaccinated and the government will let us go and have a normal season," she said.
Murphy thanked the 10 club presidents for their time and effort. She realises their work goes well beyond meeting with her and the board.
She also praised the clubs' hard-working committee members.
The president lauded the league's board for being so supportive and thanked secretary Peter Martin who she worked with to get information to the clubs as quickly as possible this year.
Murphy also praised the WDFNL's sponsors and encouraged people to keep supporting community businesses during the pandemic.
She also commended the football and netball umpires for their efforts.
As well as the players, coaches and supporters and anyone else that helps make the WDFNL happen.
Murphy said the online presentation night would hopefully be broadcast late next week and she's grateful to ACE Radio and FitZ Media for helping with that.
