There will be double the number of Public Transport Authorised Officers overseeing the network this weekend, and a police operation will have 200 officers monitoring key arterial roads, back roads and the public transport network.
"We're ramping up our efforts to protect the hard-won freedoms of regional Victorians," Nick Foa, the Department of Transport's head of transport services, said.
"Our officers will be stationed at regional and metropolitan stations, including Southern Cross, to support Victoria Police's operation guardian and making sure people are travelling for one of the five permitted reasons."
Joint patrols between public transport staff and Victoria Police will see anyone flouting travel restrictions facing a fine of $5452.
Masks must be worn everywhere except at home and permitted travellers must use QR codes on public transport.
"Our message to Melburnians is clear; do not travel to regional Victoria for the wrong reasons - you will be caught and turned away."
