And as the south-west smashes through the 70 per cent mark of people with at least one dose of protection against COVID-19, many Warrnambool residents who received their first jab less than six weeks ago will start to be able to book a second appointment.

Sue Anderton, South West Healthcare's COVID-19 co-ordinator, said the healthcare provider would honour all second doses when people became due.

She said those appointments may not be available for people to book until towards the end of their six-week interval between the two doses.

South West Healthcare on Wednesday was due to open up opportunities for people to book second appointments until October 30.

"There is and will be second dose appointments available for those people who are due," Ms Anderton said.

Meanwhile, Hamilton Base Hospital has seen about 100 Warrnambool residents travel to receive their vaccination there.

But Western District Health Service chief Rohan Fitzgerald said the number was relatively low compared to the 2525 Pfizer jabs staff had delivered. Mr Fitzgerald said for community safety it was important vaccinations covered as many people as possible in the south-west.

"We would expect that from a convenience perspective some Southern Grampians residents will be receiving their vaccine in Warrnambool," he said. "Our goal is to see every Victorian vaccinated."

One Warrnambool woman who became eligible for a Pfizer vaccination in the 16 to 39 age group last month told The Standard she travelled to Hamilton after being unable to secure an appointment closer to home.

Concerns about not being able to book a second dose yet in Warrnambool have now also led her to book an appointment in Ballarat for late October.

"I check the booking system every day wishing that some more slots become available - but nothing comes out so far," she said.

She said at least three of her friends from Warrnambool had booked their vaccines in Ballarat, too.

"It's definitely costly, and time consuming to travel to Ballarat just to get a vaccine," she said.

"But I and they choose to do this so that we can get fully vaccinated as soon as possible. There is an increasing pressure not only from the government but also respective employers to be fully vaccinated."

She expressed frustration that securing an appointment "shouldn't be this hard" but added having an appointment was reassuring.

Ms Anderton said VCE students were the priority this week for Warrnambool's vaccination centre as per the state government's blitz.

She said appointments became available when the Department of Health confirmed supply was arriving. An additional 1000 Pfizer doses will become available at the hub next week.

Victorian Health Minister Martin Foley told reporters earlier this week that extra Pfizer doses arriving from the UK should allow more appointments to become available.

"We are hopeful they will be landing in Victoria and into Victorian arms both through our GPs and through our state-run clinics by the end of this week," Mr Foley said on Monday.
