Camperdown police have thanked members of the public for providing information regarding damage to the Mount Leura walking track.
A police spokeswoman said information assisted in locating a stolen historical sign.
"A 30-year-old man from Doreen in suburban Melbourne is now assisting police with their inquiries," she said.
Earlier: Camperdown Police are seeking information from the public after the driver of an unknown vehicle broke stay-at-home orders and caused damage to parts of the Mount Leura walking trail.
Acting Sergeant Oliver Price said the driver's actions were "careless".
"It was a careless act and use of a motor vehicle in an area that's restricted for people walking," he said.
"Sometime late Thursday night or possibly early Friday morning we believe a four wheel drive was used to drive around the walking tracks up at Mount Leura.
"They've broken bollards to gain access and destroyed some of the walking paths with the four wheel drive."
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online.
Victoria Police can issue on-the-spot fines of up to $1,817 for adults who breach the chief health officer's stay-at-home directions.
