Dees fans were encouraged to show their support from home as they couldn't attend the match in-person with no crowd allowed because of coronavirus restrictions.
But all the excitement was brought to a halt over Friday night and Saturday morning with it eventually announced regional Victoria was going into another lockdown until Thursday, September 2.
The WDFNL has not yet made an announcement on the fate of its season.
Dees A grade coach Leah Sinnott is hopeful the finals will return and knows the challenge is to have her group ready if they do.
"Just like everyone else, we've just got to keep our mindset as if we will return at some point," she said.
"Two weeks is a long time and then to come straight into finals when haven't come together - how we go about it, we're still trying to nut out how that's going to look."
Whatever the Dees decide to do, Sinnott said it was important to have all her players involved in the planning.
She spoke to her group on Saturday and they'll chat again in the next couple of days.
Sinnott said, given the circumstances, all she could expect and ask of her players was to keep up their fitness.
The coach will be helping the group maintain a good mindset and keep it connected.
She said it was hard to maintain momentum and enthusiasm when the season kept starting and stopping.
But Sinnott said everyone's health and safety was the priority in the bigger picture.
