'The Fabric of Life Festival' will pay tribute to fashion and community spirit when it emerges in the Fletcher Jones Gardens in November this year.
Highlights of the day will include fashion parades of wearable artworks and an evening of cocktails, music and performance. Headlining acts include Zoe Fox & the Rocket Clocks and celebrated drag diva, Dandrogyny.
The festival also features a series of workshops in the lead-up, with guest artists Sarah Seahorse, Luna Aquatica and Catherine O'Leary.
The workshops will provide local makers with expert guidance on creating the most "splendiferous" wearable art possible.
Participants will have the opportunity to enter their creations into the festival fashion parades with prizes up for grabs.
Thanks to the support of the Fletcher Jones Family Foundation, the prize pool for entries into the parades totals over $5000, with a major prize of $2000 for the best overall wearable artwork.
The festival is the latest initiative of local not-for-profit arts organisation, The F Project, with assistance from the Warrnambool City Council's 'Activate Warrnambool' fund.
The initiative aims to bring some colour, creativity and music to the city while paying tribute to the legacy of Sir Fletcher Jones, said F Project Committee member Ann Kraus.
"Nowhere does the term 'Community Fabric' apply better than in Warrnambool. Not only is our community tight knit, but together we share a history of making some of the best clothing in the country," she said.
"The F Project Committee wanted to develop something that could be outrageously fun while building on our shared history of fashion in Warrnambool'.
The Fabric of Life Festival will take place at 'Pleasant Hill' - the Fletcher Jones Gardens - on Sunday November 21, from 10am until late. Artist markets, food & beverage stalls, children's activities and roving performers will all add to the day.
