The jurors in the County Court trial sitting in Warrnambool this week took about three days to consider the evidence against Dale Kennett, 54.
On Thursday they found him guilty of dangerous driving causing death and not guilty of failing to render assistance after an accident .
Victoria police major collision investigation unit detectives laid the charges after an incident on March 10 last year in which a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in Henry Court just after 3am.
The victim, 48-year-old Hamilton man Jason Young, sustained fatal injuries and died at the accident scene.
During the trial the jury heard evidence that Mr Kennett, who pleaded not guilty, had a "very high" level of ice in his system at the time of the incident and that the deceased was lying across the end of a driveway, although it was unclear why he was in that position.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Footage from a police officer's body camera played to the court revealed Mr Kennett telling police he was attacked by a third man and wanted to get away because he thought he was going to be assaulted.
Mr Kennett said he put his silver Nissan Pulsar in reverse.
"I hit someone laying on the roadway. I thought it was a wheelie bin or a box," he said.
"I was going to the police station. I got scared mate."
The trial commenced on July 29.
Kennett will appear in Melbourne County Court on October 1 for a plea hearing.
He remains on bail.
