Terang Post Office owners Scott and Jodie Dennis are selling the historic site and business after nearly a decade of managing the town and district's mail.
"We are still staying in Terang and we will continue on with our rural mail runs but our kids are getting older now," Mr Dennis said.
"It's a good business and it has served us well. I'm sure for whoever takes the challenge on it will do well for them as well."
Built in 1903-4 from red brick to the the design of a Victorian Public Works Department architect, the building was unusual because it had the first clock in the Commonwealth that the community financed themselves, costing them a sum of £300.
Margaret McIntososh, a researcher at Terang and District Historical Society, said although unusual today some public facilities only received community donations early on.
"It was just the way of things back in those earlier days, if you wanted something, 'well let's all chip in'," Mrs McIntososh said.
She said the clock face had undergone a number of changes since, going from black to white.
The Dennises moved to Kolora nearly 20 years ago and Scott began working at the post office managing its retail operations before buying it off his former employer.
"Jodie and I stepped in and thought, 'let's give it a go'," he said. "It's just a real focal point of the town."
Real estate agent Martin Rivett said the business and building package could prove attractive to someone looking for a lifestyle change to the country.
"You are pretty much buying a piece of Terang history," Mr Rivett, from Homeseeka Real Estate, said. "The business is paying down the building as well," he said.
The package is on the market for an asking price of $565,000 by expression of interest.
