Drivers have been warned about the danger of flood waters after a 42-year-old Terang district man was lucky to survive his vehicle being swept away on Thursday night.
Camperdown police Senior Sergeant Bill Caldow said the man was vehicle was swept off a dry weather road off Bend Road, south of Terang.
"It's been a wet winter people and we want people to use their judgement and not drive through water," he said.
"This was a dry weather road and it's been wet after a wet summer.
"Drivers should consider water levels and possible danger around water. Do not drive through flood waters.
"These are highly dangerous and dynamic environments and want drivers to proceed with extreme caution."
Senior Sergeant Caldow said if drivers came across water flooding over roads they should ring triple-0 and VicRoads.
It's understood the driver who was swept away will be issued a $1652 fine for breaching the chief health officer's regulations during the current COVID lockdown.
In June the body of a 20-year-old woman was recovered after she was swept away in flood waters near Cobden.
Police are preparing a report for the coroner following the discovery of a woman's body near Glenfyne on Friday, June 11.
Her body was found inside a vehicle by search and rescue officers in flood waters off Maddens Bridge Road.
The Simpson woman went missing on June 9 after leaving home at 8.20am to go to work.
She was expected to arrive at work in Glenfyne about 30 minutes later, but she never arrived.
Earlier: A driver is lucky to be alive after his vehicle was swept away in flood waters at Cobrico, near Terang, on Thursday night.
Police have been told the man was travelling in his Holden sedan on Bend Road, between Roycrofts and Spring Dam roads, when he attempted to cross fast-flowing flood waters about 10.15pm.
The car was taken about 80 metres downstream before coming to rest on a tree.
When police arrived the 42-year-old man was standing on the roof of his car with the water rising to around window height.
State Emergency Service volunteers used a boat to successfully navigate their way to the man in dangerous conditions.
They rescued the man, returning him safely to the roadside.
The rescue effort was coordinated by Camperdown police members.
Acting Senior Sergeant Jason Dance said the local man was very lucky not to be physically injured.
Police are making ongoing enquiries in relation to the incident.
It is expected the car will be retrieved when the water subsides.
"The police officers and SES volunteers were outstanding last night, working in dangerous and dark conditions to rescue the man," he said.
