Locations which may be affected include the Grampians, the Otway Ranges, Bacchus Marsh, the Dandenongs, Warburton and Victoria's main mountains.

A ridge of high pressure over Victoria will move east over the Tasman Sea today as a cold front approaches from the west.

Damaging northerly winds, averaging 50 to 60 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 km/h, are expected to develop within the warning area from later this morning.

Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds from the west during Saturday.

A weak ridge over eastern Victoria will move to the east today as a cold front builds over the Bight.

The front is expected to cross Victoria later on Saturday and early on Sunday, while a low pressure system will move over waters south of the Bight later on Sunday.

This low will move to the south-west on Monday as an associated cold front crosses the state.
