And it could not have been more exciting.
Making his Boomers debut in Sunday's thrilling 87-84 Olympic Games warm-up win over Argentina, the US-born Sydney-raised guard lived up to the hype.
The 24-year-old showcased a combination of skills not common in the green and gold - a shutdown defensive stopper capable of guarding virtually any position on the court and an athletic offensive weapon in the open court.
Throw in a perfect three from three from behind the three-point line on his way to 15 points and it's easy to see why Boomers coach Brian Goorjian is so enthused.
"You look at the performance of this team at the last Olympics, the last Worlds (World Championships) and there's a piece that the team didn't have," Goorjian said of an Australian side that finished fourth at both Rio in 2016 and China in 2019.
"Defensively, the switching that he did in the third quarter, the shot-blocking, getting out on the break and hitting those corner threes.
"You can just see he's comfortable out there, he's a piece that just hasn't been there and a huge addition for us.
"There's an appreciation of being a part of this, you can tell he enjoys it and what took place tonight gives him confidence heading into Tokyo."
Of course, Thybulle's defensive exploits had been well documented before the game - you don't receive NBA All-Defensive second team recognition for nothing.
It's understandable why Aussie hops fans were drooling at the prospect of unleashing Thybulle alongside his Philadelphia 76ers teammate Ben Simmons - himself an NBA All-Defensive first team member - on the Tokyo hardwood.
But with Simmons opting to spend his off-season working on "individual development" rather than play at the Olympics, Australia will have to instead be satisfied with a rejuvenated Dante Exum to be Thybulle's offensive and defensive running mate.
Sunday's game was Exum's first since January due to a calf injury, but there was no holding back as he attacked the rim to convert two athletic drives into points.
"Having a healthy Dante and a guy that's going to continue to get better like Thybulle during these next three games, it's exciting leading into Tokyo," Goorjian said.
The Boomers continue their Olympics preparations with a match against the US in Las Vegas on Tuesday morning (AEST).
