United, who finished three games ahead of second-placed Wildcats in the regular season, gained a stranglehold on the best of five series with a hard-fought 83-74 victory in game two on Sunday.

They overwhelmed an injury-ravaged Wildcats line-up missing three-time MVP Bryce Cotton, young gun Luke Travers and starter Clint Steindl, while defensive specialist Mitch Norton laboured through with a hip injury.

Even though the Wildcats were shorthanded, a weary United took care of business in the series opening two games at RAC Arena having been on the road for the past month due to the COVID-19 situation in Melbourne.

United will finally return home with the remainder of the series shifting to John Cain Arena in Melbourne, where they can clinch the championship in game three on Friday.

"We are happy to get two wins on the road," McCarron said.

"I'm super proud of how we have been able to maintain focus on the games and hold ourselves accountable," he said.

United will be hot favourites to complete the sweep against a depleted Wildcats and cap a dominant season.

McCarron, however, urged his team not to disregard the 10-time champions who have remained competitive.

"The job is not done and we have to finish off game three," he said.

"Hopefully no one is satisfied just yet.

"Lots of people expect them to get run over but I don't expect that to happen. We are expecting another tough battle in game three."

Wildcats coach Trevor Gleeson said Travers, Steindl and Norton were in doubt for game three but hoped the longer lay-off would be helpful.

"Our depth is getting tested but we will recharge our batteries and give it a crack on Friday," he said.

Even though it appears an almost impossible task, with no team having won the title from a 0-2 deficit in a grand final series, Gleeson said his players would continue to play with "heart and soul".

"We just have to play hard and together," he said. "We still have young guys out there who will go after it."
