The high-scoring Saints - known for their impenetrable defence in a Hampden league premiership run stretching six straight seasons - are hitting the scoreboard.

Koroit's 14.19 (103) to 7.6 (48) success against Hamilton Kangaroos on Saturday was the club's seventh 100-point total in eight games.

Saints mentor Chris McLaren said the scoring power his side was showing was pleasing.

"We've been more of a defensive-based team and we still rate defence extremely high, but we've probably put a bit more work on our ball movement and offence," he said.

"It's pleasing to be hitting the scoreboard and generally when you do that you're going to give up a bit of defence but it's been pleasing.

"Even the game we lost (to North Warrnambool Eagles) wasn't a high-scoring game so we've been able to defend the ground well."

McLaren said he urged his side to start well against Hamilton Kangaroos on Saturday and match their intensity.

"It was probably a closer game than the scoreline suggests," he said.

"Hamilton were quite good and competitive. We probably identified them as a fast-starting team and did put a big focus on that heading in. "It was good to take a lead into quarter-time and I think we played pretty well."
