Ms King had served as community development director since 2015 and more recently spent 11 months as acting chief executive officer.

Interim chief executive Gary Gaffney accepted Ms King's resignation, effective immediately.

"I would like to thank Ms King for her service to Warrnambool City Council and wish her well in her future endeavours," he said.

"City infrastructure director David Leahy will take on the role of community development acting director until returning CEO Peter Schneider makes a permanent appointment."
