A south-west club is offering a free program for females looking to give a new sport a shot.
Archers of Warrnambool (AOW) is starting its Arch Angels program on Wednesday at 5pm at the club's Lake Gillear range.
It's on at the same day and time for the next three weeks.
The program, which is supported by South West Sport through the Regional Sport Program - funded through VicHealth, was postponed due to the state government's coronavirus restrictions this month.
It comes as the club received glowing praise from VicHealth chief executive officer Dr Sandro Demaio who visited the Lake Gillear range in March.
"VicHealth is proud to be able to support the Archers of Warrnambool through our Active Club Grants and This Girl Can campaign funding," Dr Demaio said.
"When I visited the Archers in March, I saw the incredible impact they're having in the community and the introduction of their Arch Angels program will encourage more women and girls of all ages and abilities to get involved.
"It's incredibly rewarding to see the impact initiatives like this can have on the health and wellbeing of the local community."
The Active Club Grants funding, which was boosted via This Girl Can campaign funding, meant the club could buy more equipment and run the sessions for free.
AOW president Michael Clark said it was perfecting timing as the committee was exploring ways to create a 50:50 split of men and women at the club.
"The club felt that holding come-and-try days for women would help attract new participants to the club, as the format promoted the social side of the sport," he said.
"In official archery competitions, men and women compete separately - even though they use the same sized targets, and shoot from the same distances on the range.
"However, at Archers of Warrnambool we have mixed competitions, because women are just as good as the men."
The club provides all equipment and instruction during the session.
