Hamilton police highway patrol unit officers have taken over investigations surrounding the death of a 50-year-old Gorae woman on Thursday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the Princes Highway to reports a car had crashed into a tree at Bolwarra about 4.50pm.
A 50-year-old Gorae woman died at the scene.
She had been heading north on the Princes Highway when the collision occurred.
Investigating officers are conducting a detailed examination of the accident scene, including whether there were skid marks before the vehicle impacted with the tree.
Police said the exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be determined and investigations are ongoing.
It's been a horror fortnight on south-west roads with a male motorcyclist dying following a crash at Allansford on May 26, and the death of a 75-year-old pedestrian in Warrnambool last Friday evening after a collision with a car.
Anyone who witnessed the Thursday's fatal crash or has dash cam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
