It was a massive week for the region with the three-day May Racing Carnival. Warrnambool's Symon Wilde's Gold Medals' claimed its second win in the famous 33-fence Grand Annual Steeplechase.
Although popular jumps jockey Tom Ryan didn't win the Grand Annual, he was a big winner off the track after proposing to his partner of four years, Jemima Draper.

Looking away from the track, this week kicked off with the announcement that Killarney singer-songwriter and ARIA award winner Archie Roache will stop touring at the end of his Tell Me Why tour.
The Roman Catholic Church came under siege from Victorian victims of clergy abuse with one lawyer involved in settling eight $1 million-plus cases this year. It was revealed three of those cases in the process of being finalised involve the Ballarat diocese, resulting in payouts of more than $1.5 million, plus costs, including a Warrnambool schoolboy rape victim.
The busy tourist season has delivered a boost to Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village with the tourism attraction recording a 14 per cent increase in tourists in March compared to the five-year average and Warrnambool City Council hinted at a future investment at the site.
Back to sport and the Melbourne to Warrnambool is set for expansion with the possibility of a standalone women's race.
