Jackson, who won last year's Grand Annual on Ablaze for Maher and training partner David Eustace, announced his retirement in February after a successful jumps racing career.
Maher said Bit Of A Lad had pulled up well after his Brierly effort and Jackson had won on the gelding before.
"Jacko told me 'I had one good retirement party and I would love to have another one'," Maher said.
Maher, who is chasing a record-breaking sixth win in the Grand Annual, will also saddle up favourite Yensir.
Jackson said the ride was a one-off and would have his family on course to watch his return to the saddle.
"It was too good to turn down," he said.
"I've had some great success on the horse. I thought he ran a bottler in the Brierly (on Tuesday) and I think the extra lap is going to be right up his alley.
"He looks fit, he's a great jumper and I may as well go out on a Grand Annual runner maybe."
