Cr Angie Paspaliaris told Monday's public council meeting that she wanted to make it known that the decision to seek federal government blackspot funding to upgrade the roundabout at Lava and Kepler streets had come directly from the council's infrastructure department and officers.

"This is not a councillor decision, nor are we consulted about such applications for federal funding," she said.

"I think that the council and councillors sometimes lack the communication to the broader community about such issues.

"Therefore there can be a perception that we are making decisions or help make some of these decisions, which we don't, for some of these things which are basically above us.

"This is not a councillor decision."

Cr Paspaliaris said she would be seeking to make sure the community was aware of which "seemingly smaller issues" had come from councillors or council staff.

"There is this lack of understanding for a lot of the community as to where some of these things arise," she said.

The roundabout has been earmarked for an upgrade to match the other CBD roundabouts - but how effective the pedestrian-priority roundabouts are is currently under review.

The Banyan/Merri street roundabout is currently being upgraded after attracting federal government blackspot funding.
