Smith, who has stables in Warrnambool and Perth, accepted with four runners Great Again, Reykjavik, Riding The Wave and Epic Grey in the $175,000 Wangoom Handicap.
"I would love to win a Wangoom," he told The Standard.
"I was lucky enough to train last years cup winner Too Close The Sun, it would be great if we could put the Wangoom trophy on the mantelpiece.

"With the heavy rain on Monday night I'm expecting there'll be a couple of scratchings in the Wangoom but on the other hand most trainers bring horses here that like soft to heavy ground because they know Warrnambool's weather pattern can have four changes in a few hours.
"The good thing is my four runners don't mind wet tracks."
The astute trainer rates Riding The Wave his best chance of scoring victory in the 1200-metre feature flat race at the 'Bool.
"We were given the visitors draw with Riding The Wave and here it was I was thinking I was a local.
"We've freshened him up since his last run at Caulfield. We've trialled Riding The Wave at Camperdown and Terang.

"We put the shadow roll on in the Camperdown trials and it really worked. He kept his head down and he went straight. I'm expecting him to finish off the race solidly.
"The heavy rain on Monday night has really seen Great Again come right into the race. He ticks a few boxes. He loves it wet and has very good first-up form.
"Reykjavik also likes the soft going. He's coming back to 1200 metres. He's raced in some pretty good company in his career and been competitive.
"I'm expecting the same thing from him in the Wangoom. There's a few handy wet trackers in the field and one of those is Jungle Edge. I've got a healthy respect for him."
The Wangoom is scheduled to start at 3.20pm.
