Detective Sergeant Jason von Tunk, of the Portland police crime investigation unit, said the 17-year-old Portland teenager was arrested after two alleged motor vehicle thefts on April 18 and 27.
He said both vehicles were stolen from residential properties in Portland after keys were left in the ignition.
Sergeant von Tunk alleged the opportunistic teenager searched for vehicles easy to steal and take on joy rides.
He said both vehicles were dumped in Hamilton but not damaged.

"A 17-year-old male was arrested at a property in Mitchell Crescent and interviewed," the sergeant said.
"He was released pending summons."
The teenager is expected to be charged with theft of motor vehicle offences.
Sergeant von Tunk said it came as another timely reminder to lock up vehicles and remove the keys from the ignition.
