Coach Kylie Carter is thrilled with how her young group is responding to instruction.
"Anything we work on at training, they seem to put into place," she said.
"If you can play how you train success will come, we've just got to keep working at it."
Carter explained the Lions focused on defensive pressure the first few weeks and were now working on the attacking side of their game.
She knows it will take time with essentially a brand new team.
Strong communication is another focal point for South Rovers.
Carter said the side played better when the talk was up.
While there are plenty of positives, the Lions have had an injury-ravaged start to their 2021 campaign.
Carter explained recruit Merinda Ugle-Hagan injured her ankle in round one against Nirranda and was likely out for six to eight weeks.
Zarli Dalton also sustained an ankle injury during Saturday's game.
Steph Jenkins came up from A reserve to replace Dalton at goal keeper.
It meant the Lions had three 17 and under players from 2019 in A grade on the weekend.
Emma Maclean and Zahra Walker - who was best on court in round three - were the other two.
