The Mermaids went down 66-58 at Pakenham but Primmer couldn't have been prouder of his young team.

"They were very, very courageous after losing a game last night and having to travel this far after a narrow loss," he said.

"So to back up and push a team which was far more experienced in age and size than our girls - I was very proud of them."

Teenagers Mia Mills, Molly McLaren and Grace Rodgers contributed 13 points each.

Primmer said there were times in the game where Pakenham could have surged ahead but the Mermaids hung tough.

It came after the Mermaids lost 67-61 to Craigieburn on Saturday night at The Arc.

Amy Wormald and McLaren top-scored with 18 points each.

Primmer said the Mermaids had control for most of the game but didn't close it out as well as they would have liked.

The Mermaids mentor added Mills and sisters, Cigi and Juina Lual, didn't play on Saturday night but did on Sunday.

The coach said something the Mermaids needed to work on was reducing their foul count.

He feels the team is sending its opponents to the free-throw line too often.

The Mermaids face top-of-the-table Chelsea on Saturday night at The Arc.

Meanwhile, Warrnambool Seahawks lost their division one encounter to Corio Bay 94-53 at The Arc on Saturday night.

Coach Alex Gynes rates the Stingrays highly.

"They're definitely the benchmark of the competition from our perspective. They're a well-drilled side and were extremely physical and pushed us out of our structure early," he said.

The coach added the Seahawks had a poor shooting night.

"And that stems from their defensive pressure, they forced us into a lot of turnovers and contested shots and they were too physical for us right from the jump," he said.

"It shows where we have to get to, to compete at this level."

Gynes believes maintaining space on the floor when under pressure is one area for improvement.

He'll also be encouraging his troops to be more aggressive in offense.

Gynes said Simon O'Keefe came back from injury and battled hard on Saturday night.

"It was great to see him back out on the floor, he's a big body who puts us in good stead under the rim," he said.

The coach said the Seahwawks got through Saturday night unscathed.

Gynes added Jarra Blackney-Noter was still recovering from a fracture in his hand.

The Seahawks face Collingwood at home on Saturday night.
