The Demons secured their first win under the former Horsham Saint with a confidence-boosting 11.13 (79) to 4.6 (30) victory over Dennington.

Hobbs said his side was still a work in progress as it aims for another win against Merrivale next week.

"We still have got a fair bit of work to do but it is going good," he said.

"I love that part of it (coaching) and getting the side to play how you want them to and working with the players and how they feel a about new ideas. It's that part of the job that is enjoyable.

"(The players are) slowly (getting used to things) as it's all a bit new. It'll take four to six weeks. They can see it is working but it will take time."

Dennington coach Ben Thornton said his side showed significant improvement on its round one drubbing to Panmure.

"There was a lot of positives to take out of it after we spoke last week we didn't play the defensive game we wanted to play," he said.

"We worked on it at training Tuesday and Thursday to swing around and we played a lot better."
