Stevens, who is still only 15, averaged 15 points across his seven matches for Vic Country, including a high of 27 against Queensland South.

He also dropped 25 on Tasmania and 24 on South Australia Country.

"Overall for the week I was pretty happy. It was an awesome experience and something I am very glad I was able to be a part of," Stevens said.

"I always like to start well so the three games where I scored a fair bit I started well and went from there.

"It's good to contribute on the scoreboard. It was my first time ( at basketball nationals) and the difference between playing locally and that next level is just ridiculous.

"The work that gets put in before the game, after the game, all that sort of stuff, just to play that 40 minutes is pretty full on."

Vic Country finished the tournament in ninth place after beating Northern Territory.

"I had a different role in this game, I was more defensive, trying to play on one of their better players," he said.

Warrnambool's Jaylen Brown, 16, was part of the Victorian wheelchair team for the Kevin Coombs Cup which was to run alongside the under 18 nationals.

But a coronavirus scare in Queensland prior to the tournament forced it to be cancelled.
